Methods of Teaching Free Essays

Teachers are the main disseminators of knowledge in the schools and society. They occupy the enviable position of being the main interpreters of knowledge for the next generation and future leaders. In order to make this knowledge viable, it requires pedagogical skills that are capable to serve the minorities and all other populations equitably. We will write a custom essay sample on Methods of Teaching or any similar topic only for you Order Now Most people are locked out during the dissemination of knowledge not because they are not in the teaching venue at the right time, but because their way of knowing is not incorporated into the teaching styles and strategies (Karl, 1997). According to Lev Vygotskyas Social development theory we find that he states the cognitive development of a child is influenced by social interaction he says that while biological factors highly influence development, they just don’t occur in isolation. He says that the social environment in child’s life matters a lot in his development. He reasons that adult guidance and child’s problem solving early in life are things that affect cognitive growth. He calls it proximal development zone. He says that this is the zone where learning takes place. This is also where the child learns from the peers. Children learn speech and writing from their immediate social environment. These are tools that develop from culture and they help children to communicate their needs (Gardner and Jerome, 2001). He reasoned that language and thought are co exist, none can happen without the other. The Neo –Vygotsian approach to child development is more effective than the radical approach. Which was used in the past didn’t provide students with an environment that encouraged learning where they play an active role in their learning and education. Through this they also influence their peers’ education. Both the teacher and students play untraditional roles together to enhance learning. Collaboration between the teacher and students in learning is better than where the teacher dictates to the students what to do. The students then just do the recitation, which is not good learning. Education or learning where the students and teachers share ideas to enhance learning is the best. According to Vygotsky classroom arrangement should enhance small groups of the students to discuss. This can be done by creating more workspace by having tables and tables clustered. This is where the students can easily interact. In such a case communal learning is encouraged in the class. Teachers develop an instruction set up that is above the students’ development level to help them develop to the next level From the above theory I can therefore say that Teaching strategies can be defined as the means whereby teachers and instructors use diverse teaching methods or techniques in conveying information to a class of students or those people who are required to gain new knowledge. There are various forms of techniques that can be utilized which include expository teaching, interactive teaching, Small group teaching or discussion, inquiry teaching or problem solving, Individualization method of teaching and models of reality. This paper will focus on small group discussions and interactive methods of teaching (Gardner and Jerome, 2001). In my position I do not support the constructivism since it is a way of teaching that involve the students to get information through observation and experimentation in this case we find that constructivism method can be described as presentation by the teacher or lecturer to a big group of learners whereby the presence of active learning in the class is limited and only the teacher or lecturer takes the whole time designated for the lesson outlining whatever to be learned. This method can only be efficient and the best method if strategies that are active should be incorporated. Usually teachers are characterized by longer hours with a lot of topics to be covered which have led to the approach being inefficient, I find it to be a complex method of teaching and that it should be discouraged by any teacher (Bruner, 1996). since I believe that the constructivism is a complex method of teaching, In order to yield good teaching results in my profession I therefore choose the following types of teaching methods which are the small group discussions and the interactive teaching methods as the appropriate strategies for teaching Small Group Discuss Discussion is found to be the most important strategies applied in many learning institutions which usually involve the division of the students in class into a number of groups that are meant to represent certain points of view on the identified topic that is regarded as the most compromising subject. Under group discussions we find that there are those who support the argument, that is the proponents or those for, and those who oppose the issue referred to as those against or the critics, this actually indicates the benefits of the team work in many learning institutions whereby we find that students involve themselves in a number of debates through character or even assuming different roles (Print, 1993). These discussions are also believed to be leading to the achieving of new knowledge because by arguing it out a point, there is an opportunity of integrating ideas and hence conclusions arrived at being useful in the learning process. Since it is a discussing process which can generate more new knowledge it should be encouraged in learning institutions, therefore the strategies that can be applied to encourage team work in schools is that the management should ensure that courses should be introduced that only requires discussions as a method of learning where participants will be required to compile the outcome of their discussions. Teachers should constantly utilize the discussion approach especially on contemporary issues which require further research (Gardner and Jerome, 2001). The use of this approach should be encouraged in training, primary, secondary, adult, and in the higher learning of institutions such as the universities because it provides an opportunity to argue or oppose certain subject which is an issue which can lead to generation of new ideas. However, it should strongly be recommended to adult, training and in the university institutions because with such knowledge the learners can utilize in the working environment when they are employed. In the primary level those who are in upper classes can be introduced to debates so that they are familiar with the approach and also get to know that constructive debate about an issue is not bad but can lead to gaining of new knowledge (Bruner, 1960). The only limitation exist in this strategy is that, there is a tendency of laziness and time wastage since students are left to choose on what topics to discuss on at their own time and may request their instructor to present their findings at their own convenient time, that is, when they feel that they have fully exhausted the topic to discuss on. Small group discussions are regarded as the best strategy to learning and it is said to be democratic since it gives freedom to the learners and the teachers. Through which they are given an opportunity to organize themselves in groups that everyone that allow individuals to raise different opinions relating to the particular issue under discussion without any restrictions. Under this strategy everyone is entitled to give contributions is given an opportunity to air his/her opinions without victimization or favors. Further the aspect of freedom of scheduling the activities by the students and the presence of good environment makes discussions more democratic and interesting (Print, 1993). Interactive Method of Teaching Interactive teaching is one whereby learners are provided with an interactive environment where they can express their views, opinions, suggestions and have an opportunity to support their arguments. It involves both the teacher and the learner where the teacher comes up with the topic to be discussed which is open to any form of criticisms or additions to the main point. This interactive teaching method can be utilized whereby there is a big number of audience or learners expected to gain from the knowledge being passed. This method is found to be effective only if active methods of learning are introduced. The aspect of interactive learning should be incorporated in order to avoid boredom and tiredness among the participants. It should not only be done through talking by the speaker but also the use of boards and lecturers being open discussions should be considered (Print, 1993). The time of interacting should be revised as often as it is allocated a lengthy time frame which has been the main reason behind boredom and tiredness among the partners. Good communication skills by the teachers should be encouraged in order to pass clearly the intended messages to the learners which lead to solving the most common problem of ambiguity, that is, to enhance passage of clear messages to the listeners or the participants. It is also advisable that lecturing should be encouraged if the topics to be covered are easy and to understand and also interesting to the learners and thus making them more attentive because there will be no boredom and tiredness during the session or lesson and hence gaining knowledge (Karl, 1997). The interactive teaching method is found to be prescriptive because it does not give the learner an opportunity to air their views or make suggestions. Usually it gives the teacher or the instructor an opportunity to decide for the students thus being prone to being an effective approach. It is a rigid way since it does not provide an opportunity to participants to make any suggestions concerning the subject matter thus there limited generation of new ideas. The students normally have to follow the set course outline and they are not open to criticize anything even if they are unsatisfied thus rendering this approach to be narrow in terms of the output expected. The lecturer has to come up with what is required and to be covered in the cause and this depends mostly on his professionalism in relation to his duties. For example the topics to be covered during the lecture might be formulated in such a way that some important topics are left out may be because the lecturer may not be conversant with the topics (Gardner and Jerome, 2001). The use of interactive whiteboards should be encouraged. Recent studies have looked at how interactive whiteboards influences learning and teaching processes in schools. It suggests that whiteboards offer visual display that go in line with the explanations offered by the teacher thus helps students to understand better. It further outlines that the use of technologies in methods like debate and lectures can act as a motivational effect especially when used at the primary school level. For this interactive teaching method to prosper, we find that many schools are found to be using the Information and Communication Technology which refers to technologies used to collect, store, edit and pass on information in various forms these ICT technologies that are utilized include; Interactive whiteboard, Videoconferencing, PowerPoint research presentation, and Internet use. For example during class lessons, the teacher can use the laptops in presentation when explaining an issue to the students (Bruner, 1960). Another technique that can be utilized in the interactive method of teaching is the radio broadcasts which are regarded as day to day learning procedures in many learning institutions most radio programs are said to be like lectures because they usually educate the public and the students. Sometimes the conversions are open to callers who make their suggestions thus coming up with different opinions. (Print, 1993) Creative Thinking Creative thinking is defined as the process of thinking that enables the mind of an individual to improve its ability of being creative, this in simple terms means that it is a process bringing in new and different ideas from the existing ones. Research indicates that there are different types of creative thinking examples of the creative thinking are; the expressive creativity this type of thinking is believed to be occurring most often in children which is presented by children through their drawing and playing, the productive creativity this is the type of thinking which is practiced by many scientists since it involves the process of a continuous production that is characterized by the urge of creating but not expressing, the other type of a creative thinking is that of an inventive creativity thinking which is always geared towards solving and improving the technology in question. Research indicates that this creative thinking is always characterized by its ability to be nurtured and changed by an individual (Ennis, 1991). Research indicates that those individuals using the creative way of thinking actually indulge in the making of instinctive approaches to the existing solutions depending on the insights and perceptio n surrounding the situation. Here we find that in the process of taking information through individuals’ senses, the brain therefore functions in the following process that is after the information is gathered the brain is enabled to reach a decision through the process of thinking or even feeling, and in normal cases these decisions are therefore allowed to through the judgment process under which is found to be relating to the brains approaches towards the global externally thus the brain is found to be dealing with the judgment on how individuals handle their daily activities, therefore an individual using the right side of the brain are said to be preferring situations to be put in an orderly and an organized manner including the factor of neatness and a good establishment before reaching a conclusion (Tama,1989). The people using the creative thinking are therefore divided in two that is the perceivers and the judgers. Under this grouping the judgers are said to first of all come up with a plan which will enable a number of things to be done before getting a solution thus the brain allows them to get ready by making sure that their work is done in advance, thus bringing in the idea of them preferring their solutions to be prepared, worked upon and brought to a solution with a particular plan to move on at a later time (Bruner, 1996). The other types of individuals using the creative thinking are the perceivers who are believed to be having an affinity of postponing decisions with the progress of seeking for different options by actually dealing with socializing with other people, listening to others, farming among other activities, this indicates that they usually proceed unexpectedly, the brain makes them not to plan for their solutions in advance and they usually do their obligations at the last minute (Gardner and Jerome,2001). Therefore in this case we find that when many people are found to be more concentrated with either the creative or the critical thinking of the brain in the process of dealing with facts and logic when solving a situation. The majority of the individuals do not understand the problems that always go hand in hand with the elements of social knowledge. Under their expectations and achievements, those applying the use of both types of thinking, usually plan more as compared to what they wo uld actually achieve in actual terms. Future possibilities in them are easily connected with the feelings of the persons affected. Compared to the individuals using a single type of thinking, who are less genuine in interest and exceptional awareness in their day to day activities; they are special in giving in to the interest their personal experiences, thus they fail to have a strong need for intimate relationships which are usually needed for close interrelations in the society, thus failing in the solving of particular problems (Beyer, 1987). The best example of a creative thinking is the personal experience is the relationship I had between me and my students in a classroom, whereby as a teacher I had a role to motivate a creative thinking to my student, in this case we find that I used a method referred to as a Comprehensive Assessment Test which is an average assessment for students whose outcome represents the position of a particular student in relation to their capability of achieving a learning standard that is always expected by others. Being a teacher I was given the opportunity of enabling my student to undertake the assessment in a number of activities which features the knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation practiced on her by me, I utilized the following procedures to make her exercise successful (Tama,1989). Benchmarks- under this research indicates that it always involve the setting up of the students ability of creative thinking and solving problems, here I provided the student with a reading test, whereby I ensured that the student was served with the mandate of analyzing, understanding and assessing the information provided to her and then follow the measures required to carry out the exercise. In this test the students’ creative thinking surpasses the essential comprehension of many test questions I gave the student (Bruner, 1960). In this case the student was also put in the practice of reading passages which allowed her to be able to create meaning from the number of texts she read, the passages were always provided in two forms, one consisting of two to three literary passages such as short stories, poems, historical fiction among others, while the second one carries four to five informational passages such as texts derived from magazines, diaries and newspaper articles Among others (Anderson, 1990) Multiple Choices- this is another method that I the teacher applied in the students’ learning to motivate a creative thinking to her; in this case, I gave her a question and four choices of answers, where she was recommended to choose the most excellent answer for the available question. Short Response Task- here, I provided the student with a number of questions with a space of eight lines below the question requiring her to write their answers in a duration of five minutes, this particular response carries two points scoring rubric, whereby, the I ensured that the student applies the read, think and explain concept in answering the questions thus the student was needed to be creative in answering the questions provided to her (Karl, 1997). Extended Response Task- This involved a question with a symbol carrying fourteen lines just next to the question which allowed the student to give a longer written answer; here I gave the student more time, at least ten minutes to answer the provided questions, these responses always carry four point scores. This method is usually designed with an objective of improving the students understanding abilities (Anderson, 1990). To apply all these methods of creative thinking in my students’ learning I actually needed her to us e her critical thinking in order to succeed in answering the questions I provided to her. Conclusion In order to yield good teaching results in my profession I therefore choose the above techniques of teaching methods which is the small group discussions, the interactive and creative thinking teaching methods as the appropriate strategies for teaching as compared to the other teaching methods which are stated to be the complex methods of teaching, like the constructivism teaching should be discouraged since it is stated to be one of the most complex method of teaching by any teacher, in this case we find that it is actually passive and involves the teacher take the major part of participation such as organizing the information that is to be conveyed to the students in a manner that will enhance their understanding on the particular topic, we also find that in this method there is no room for the students to offer their views on the subject being discussed, it is regarded as the most inefficient mode of teaching and has contributed mostly to deterioration of education standards aroun d the world (Print, 1993). Feminist Outlooks at Disney Princess

Question: Discuss about theFeminist Outlooks at Disney Princess. Answer: Introduction The Walt Disney Studio co. also, their generation have dependably been a notoriety for being admirably as an impact of the established marketed America culture. Among the works, movies and the characters that have been incorporated into the noticeable Disney princess movies (Bell, 2015). These movies are impression of the general public on the female parts and hence impact on the young ladies who are for the most part in their youth. All the princess of Disney are constantly wonderful, and have prudence to the general population (Do Rozario, 2004). These films have dreams, dream companions and good examples to a huge populace of the young ladies. Disney is one of the greatest media association on the planet, they permit the young ladies to have the reasonable stories. In this exploration examine it is intended to investigate the sex personality and the sexual orientation parts utilizing Disney films. Encourage, the examination is planned taking a gander at how the media presentation consequences for the sexual orientation, all the more especially the young ladies (Craven, 2002). The point of the examination is to recognize on how the character could be changed using the long time thoughts and additionally temperance which are set in the enlivened movies from the viewpoint of the women's activists. The movies that are incorporated into the Disney Princess were basically not wanted to end up arrangement when they were at first delivered. They have dependably been an autonomous works of the Walt Disney liveliness studios all through the twentieth century until 2001. Andy Mooney, who was the executive of the Disney Buyer items, declared 9 princesses of the association smash hit movements to be highlighted in lineup as the promoting effort, meant to focus to the young ladies (Bruce, 2007). The Walt Disney has set standard for the young ladies on how they ought to grow up to be legitimate ladies to empower them discover their sovereign. It is normally accepted that from these movies that the ladies should be lovely, and in addition thin and they ought to play out every one of the obligations of the housewife (Eggli and Harward, 2012). The princess don not hold their own occupations and they should not to defy any immediate request given to them. Since the creation of the main long l iveliness alluded to as Snow White and the Seven Smaller people that was distributed in 1937, the majority of the Disney Princess activity motion pictures have adjusted tall tales overall, for example, the Grimm's Children's stories (Footit, 2013). Illustration the Snow White and Seven Smaller people which had initially been gotten its story from the Grimm tall tales. Through multiplication of these children's stories that were well known, the studio addresses kids with the great ideals the princesses in the story acquired and underscored on the estimations of the general public (Griffin, 2016). The stories likewise urges the youthful group of onlookers to experience their guide and rebuff the scalawags and prizes the courageous women. The late discourse have been seen to bring idea that the characters and their individual movies could bring negative impact on the youthful viewers (Heywood and Drake, 1997). Ought to the ladies, for example, Snow White or maybe Resting Magnificence be the good examples for the future eras? A few people have guaranteed that Cinderella or Little Mermaid are hostile to women's activist in a few respects (Jones, 2016). A portion of the illustrations have been investigated underneath on how this could happen, furthermore a few counterpoints on how Disney has colossally enhanced throughout the years. The film flatness of Snow White has been the most hostile to women's activist as far as perspectives in the decades that were going before Disney Renaissance of the 1990s. A hefty portion of the female who were hero were dull and they were characterized by their outside magnificence (Martinez, 2014). Snow White for instance was expressed as one of the most attractive film of every one of them. The physical magnificence was the essential fuel for the ruler in an endeavor for death. It was seen that the huntsman saved her and also the dwarves took her to their home, it could be seen this was slightest because of her excellence (Orenstein, 2006). The Snow White character was a man who was constantly merciful and figured out how to contribute on the family and enhance the lives of her freshly discovered family (Nicholls, 2015). Unfortunately, on this case this is the main positive quality she has had other than from her magnificence. The most characterizing components are the shallow one s. Further, even inside the family unit her essentially part was to perform housework. At the season of the formation of the first film, the ladies were still respected to be minimal more than the peons. As to the recorded setting, the ladies just accomplished the privilege to vote two decades prior (Sawyer, 2014). Past the accomplishment of suffragist developments, not a great deal has been done to empower the ladies equity status as men in the work constrain. The principle desire was for the ladies to stay at home, perfect and in addition bring up the kids. In the most recent couple of decades back it was troublesome for the ladies to endeavor even on self-realization, despite the fact that training was extraordinarily empowered (Sawyer, 2014). Snow White is plainly a decent case of what is normal for the young ladies as of now to be pretty and be pleasant. The contention through the Walt Disney generation movies in a perfect world are appeared through the female heroes. Women's activist trust that ladies need more freedom that is appeared in the movies (Sigurjnsdttir, 2014). They need the Walt Disney to demonstrate that the ladies can deal with themselves, they can have employments and in addition get to be pioneers. As of now Disney movies indicates men commanding the motion pictures and they need this to be changed to be equivalent (Nicholls, 2015). The women's activist have viewed the Disney movies as an undesirable standpoint for the youthful viewers particularly the young ladies who watch them to get physical traits along the qualities. In the motion pictures it has been appear ladies inspiring themselves such a great amount to have full women's activist standpoint. Any instance of time when Walt Disney releases a princess movie the feminist usually criticizes and reject it to makes sure people identify the movie is politically in correct (Sawyer, 2014). The following movie on princess Walt Disney makes sure they have evaluated on them to please the women and the role of the main character reflects that of male dominance. Literature Review The current studies have examined on the role of gender and influence to the gender stereotypes of the Walt Disney Corporation. The early studies has been remodeled in the early films, where the images of the princesses follow on a certain pattern and a conventional stereotype. The research on the influence of the Disney animation films were widely discussed in the film from Mouse to Mermaid (Stover, 2013). Current research focus on the Disney princess role of the gender and relations to the feminism. When analyzing on the Disney films one need to look at the media impact on the viewers. The behaviors of the children is mostly impact on what they watch. Constructivist model, highlights that the children are regarded as the active agents, people who are eager learners, and they actively construct on the social world around them (Sumera, 2008). Further, looking at the social learning theory, it highlights on the appropriate behavior that ought to be exhibited by the children. Mass medi a is an influential teacher on the social aspect, especially to the young individuals (Thomas, Johnston and Frank, 1995). There are certain element on the beliefs as well as attitudes that the young people could adopt when they watch the Disney Princess films. The gender based attitudes and the beliefs are related to an extent to what is watched especially in the television. The Disney animated films usually contains a strong message on the significant of the family relationships (Valley, 2013). The family members in the films were shown sacrificing for one another, and putting their family well-being before their own. Disney have tried to show how family and friendship mean. Family and friends are usually the main supporters of the princess especially when the evil towards her befall and help to overcome them (Wiln , 2015). The narrative of femininity in the films is constructed out of contradiction of the forces that are mixed. The feminist have portrayed on how the women should b e treated. Disney usually listen to what the critics highlights and make changes within the movies as well as on the future production are done more carefully. Feminism first occurred during Snow White and the sleeping Beauty (Jones, 2016). This feminism occurred in the 19th Century and was aimed at the women suffrage and receive the right to vote. The women in this period were moderate and conservative, they did not at the time plan to make stir in equality of their home setting (Griffin, 2016). The women wanted to vote only because they had contributed a lot in the world war one and even some had obtained jobs. The women still were seen as housewives and this was portrayed a lot in Snow White. After the 80s there was changes in the Disney production from the depiction of the gender that addressed on the roles of the women in post-world war two (Orenstein, 2006). The stories shifted from just simple virgins who were in conflict with the evil mature women to more complex issues on r ebellion and danger. The current period there are also issues of feminism that has existed where in the films there are rebellion seem against the sour big sisters (Griffin, 2016). This reclaim on the sexual objectification as women right is produced, their course and it was done on their own terms (Jones, 2016). The waves of feminism have also brought strong feeling that Disney has brought unhealthy life style. Due to this unhealthy style and admiration of the people, the feminist do not want the girls dressing up using the outfits of the princesses because they do not want them to behave in such manners. Discussions Walt Disney highlights on the ideologies which their princess films follows. The like films such as Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and the Seven Dwarves have indicated on how the princesses are portrayed. They show on how the housewife are supposed to act. The company has been able to make changes to the princesses based on the views presented by the women on their right in the real life (Footit, 2013). In the Beauty and the Beast story it highlights how the character Belle who is independent, hardworking, an intellectual individual as well as head strong. This has gotten high rating because it portrays on how the women are living (Footit, 2013). Another movie that has been praised is the Princess in the Frog, the personality traits that were given the princess were remarkable. Nonetheless, there was downfall in the movie when the aspect of living happy ever after came into the concept of the story when they showed that one will likely not be happy without a partner (Bruce, 2007). This took a heavy critism from the feminist since they believed a woman can be independent and be happy without the presence of a man. The research has found that no matter how much effort Walt Disney does to pleas them, it will never be enough for them. To achieve full satisfaction and make the feminist happy there has to be woman who is successful and make it without a partner (Bell, 2015). This means there could not be presence of happily ever after in the movie. Comparison One aspect for comparison in the Disney films is the aspect of role of the gender. This is the conduct and part of the courageous woman took in the climical emergency happened in the story (Bruce, 2007). Case, is the little Mermaid, Ariel who was overcome enough to change herself for her darling one, however it could be seen when the catastrophe or inconvenience came she is latent and sits tight for male characters to spare her from the dangers of the Ursula. Elsa was a debacle yet she learnt to control herself and she was notwithstanding ready to give up herself for her darling ones, along these lines sparing the world (Craven, 2002). On the part of adoration lives, Ariel was the main princess who was acting initiatively so as to seek after her affection, and Elsa did not need an adoration life to be a courageous woman in the story. Conclusion Walt Disney has proceeded with the female characters who are normally composed as the good examples and as characters. The late cases could be found in the Princess and the Frogs and the real hit, for example, Solidified. Both of these motion pictures have indicated ladies who conflicts with all the commonplace perspectives of the Disney Princess in different ways. Disney without a doubt had a few issues in the creation balanced female characters in its history. All things considered, throughout the decades the association have change all things considered. It can be seen that they have furnished the gathering of people with a portion of the best female characters in the movement and even maybe the majority of the historical backdrop of the movies. There are still a portion of the enhancements that should be made for the reasons for consistency to reduce the aspect of feminists from some of their films. As feminist I believe that the women should have more independence that is shown in the films, the women are able to take care of themselves, have their own jobs as well become leaders. Personal responsibility as a Students Success Strategy

Introduction It is not possible to define personal responsibility without first discussing what it means to be responsible. Responsibility is consciousness about tasks, duties and obligations. It is the ability to take action about some aspects of life – be it health, education, politics, environment and the like.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Personal responsibility as a Students Success Strategy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This sense of consciousness becomes critical when it focuses on an individual. The need to perform tasks related to health, education, politics and the environment becomes an individual obligation. It is at this point that we talk about personal responsibility. This is the ability of an individual to be answerable about an obligation. It is the consciousness by an individual to bear a burden in life by their own free will. No one can be forced to take responsibility. It has to f low naturally. It must be an agreement between a person’s mind and spirit – a response of deeply seated willingness and choice. It must never be coerced or demanded. The distinguishing characteristic of personal responsibility – In the world, there are several causes that someone can get involved in. It is remarkable to be involved in making the world a better place. Without personal responsibility, not much can be accomplished in the world. Throughout history, people have had to sacrifice and take personal responsibilities towards creating a better place for all human beings to live. Personal responsibility is a symbol of maturity. It is easier to distinguish a responsible person from an irresponsible person. One of the distinct characteristics of personal responsibility is the consciousness to fulfil personal promises. It is the sincerity with which an individual keeps their own word. This has to be intentional and well planned. It leaves no room for excusing personal failures and inconsistencies especially when taking care of obligatory responsibilities. It requires knowledge of causal responsibility. Personal responsibility means getting involved in things for which one is liable. This discourages the individual from omissions that could hurt many others. Taking personal responsibility means that failure would attract penalty or reprimand.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! The commitment to do an excellent job depends on the understanding of what it is that should be done. It is a strategy for success by students. Every student has a moral obligation and responsibility to study strategically and excel in whatever areas of their specialty. Being a student is not in itself an easy task. This is because students have to put up with a lot of pe rsonal struggles and challenges in pursuit of education. It requires dedication and focus. A student must be willing to learn and have an attitude that fosters active learning. Students must deal with voices that make it difficult to excel in their studies. These include public, private and inner voices. Students have to learn the art of personal responsibility in order to remain purposeful and focused (Royston, 1998, 16). Personal responsibility becomes a strategy to make students succeed in their studies. They should be challenged to develop personal discovery statements and challenged to work around them. The statements should reflect the student’s personal thoughts, feelings and aspirations. Personal values, truths and other beliefs should also form part of the student’s discovery statements. The student’s instructors should ensure that students demonstrate consciousness towards their role as students. The instructors should ensure that the statements develo ped by the students make their intentions easily observable and positive. They should use a sign of discomfort to help push the students beyond their comfort zones (Ellis, 2011, 7). Personal responsibility as an integrated learner centered teaching approach. Teaching is a difficult responsibility. The teaching staff do not have the power to force students to learn. The responsibility of the staff has to do with developing relevant and useful content materials for teaching. They have to demonstrate the ability to prepare content materials that intrigue and cause students to ask questions. The aim of the educationist is to arouse the students’ interest to learn. The other personal responsibility of student instructors is to lead the students to viable learning resources once their interest to learn gets captured.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Personal responsibility as a Students Success Strategy specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More They also have a personal responsibility or obligation to follow through the process of learning by students. They have to monitor the entire learning process by the students. What every instructor should do best is to challenge students to learn. They must understand that no one can learn for them. They have to realize that learning is vital for them to achieve their dreams and visions in life (Weimer, 2002, 104). Conclusion Life is full of obligations, duties and tasks. We get surrounded by obligations left, right and everywhere. We must identify obligations and study them thoroughly. This prompts preparedness and undying consciousness towards the execution of those obligations. Personal responsibility is the ability by individuals to respond diligently and with commitment towards their personal obligations. Personal responsibility is a crucial strategy towards success by students. It encourages learner – teaching approaches within the education sec tor. References Ellis, D. (2011). The Hamlet in Me essays

The Hamlet in Me essays Whether we are planning to build a boat or hoping to write a good essay, the only way to go about these tasks is to make a detailed plan of all the steps that need to be taken in order to get the desired result. If you spontaneously decide to build a boat, the result may be a plywood tub that leaks from all sides, let alone hold anyone in it. Hamlet, a seventh century story put to life through the amazing writing of Shakespeare, is a play that shows how meticulous and well thought out plans will bring about the desired result. The plays main character, Hamlet, is a Renaissance man that struggles with the corrupt world around him. He must deal with such issues like "blood for blood revenge" when his own uncle kills his father and takes his place as king. A ghost king appears to Hamlet and catalyzes the events that follow in the play. Hamlet must devise a plan to take revenge for his father and bring to justice all the people who have marred the situation. Though the church mandates through its moral code that Hamlet not take revenge, Hamlet tries to find the worst fate for his devious uncle possible: "Now might I do it, now he is a-praying, And now I'll do't and so he goes to heave...When he is drunk asleep, or in his rage, or in th' incestuous pleasure of his bed...Then trip him...And that his soul may be as damned and black As hell, whereto it goes" (3.4.77-100). Hamlet finally gains the nerve to kill his uncle, but sheaths his sword when he realizes that if he kills him while he is praying, his uncle will ascend to heaven. He ultimately decides to kill his uncle when he commits a sin, so that his soul "may be as damned and black as hell." He goes through a meticulous thought process, which shows him both his options and when to act to give his uncle the most cruel and horrible death he deserves. His actions also bring in a conflict between church and the revengeful calls of his families past. I ...

An Explication of Beowulfs Monologue About His Past

The main purpose of this anecdote, however, is to describe how and when Beowulf began his career of combat and fame. Within Beowulf’s monologue, the author utilizes alliterations and kenning to help the poem flow and to emphasize the strength and valor of Beowulf as an epic hero. One such example is the kenning used at the beginning of the episode. It reads, â€Å"Beowulf, son of Ecgtheow, spoke†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (2425). Instead of the phrasing reading â€Å"Beowulf spoke,† this phrase adds vigor to the beginning. It reinforces the idea that Beowulf is seen as an extremely powerful hero that can take on anything that comes his way as opposed to â€Å"just Beowulf. If â€Å"son of Ecgtheow† were not used, Beowulf would seem almost boring compared to the magnificent, heroic image that comes to mind when this phrase is employed. Alliteration is also used to allow the poem to flow and also to provide an interesting element to otherwise bland sentences. â€Å"While I was in his ward he treated me no worse as a wean†¦Ã¢â‚¬ is referring to King Hrethel’s â€Å"adoptionâ € of Beowulf after his father died (2432). The repetition of the W sound allows easy movement through the story that Beowulf tells, and it keeps the reader interested in what is being said. Another example of alliteration is the lines 2479-2480: â€Å"My own kith and kin avenged these evil events, as everybody knows†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Without any sound repetition, the reader would become bored with the story, but the author strategically places these examples of alliteration in the epic to provide more exciting details. Along with these rhetorical devices, this passage gives significant details bout Beowulf’s upbringing. The reader learns that Beowulf’s father Ecgtheow dies when Beowulf is only seven years old. King Hrethel takes him in, though, and treats him like one of his own sons. Later, the king’s oldest son Herebeald is accidentally killed by his younger brother Haethcyn. King Hrethel is so depressed that he lay down and dies from grief. Afterward, there is a battle between the Swedes and the Geats, in which Hrethel’s son Haethcyn, the new king, is killed in battle. Hygelac, the last son of Hrethel and now the new king of the Geats, gave Beowulf treasure and land for fighting alongside them. This battle seems to be one of the first that Beowulf participated in. He says, â€Å"I marched ahead of him [Hygelac], always there at the front of the line; and I shall fight like that for as long as I live†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (2497-2499). After that first battle, Beowulf launched himself into a life of war and fame, constantly craving the recognition and treasures that came after a successful battle or killing. Beowulf’s monologue about his past allows readers into his mind so that they can understand why he fights the way he does and where he came from in the first place. Without this episode, the poem as a whole would suffer because there would be no back story to explain Beowulf’s desire to defeat monsters and achieve the fame that he thinks he deserves. Perhaps he is making up for the fact that his father died when he was so young: he is trying to live a life that would make his father proud that Beowulf was his son. SEARCH AND SEIZURE- CRIMINAL LAW Research Paper

SEARCH AND SEIZURE- CRIMINAL LAW - Research Paper Example Since the enactment and implementation of this law and its subsequent amendment known as the 4th Amendment, there have been several public and academic reviews on the law. Whereas some of these reviews seek to educate the public on the mandate and interpretation of the search and seizure law, others seek to criticize the law whiles others on the other hand seek to magnify the merits of the law. In this essay, there is an integrated approach to critically analyze the search and seizure law from the view points of as many schools of thoughts as there are on the law. Overview of the Search and Seizure Law The search and seizure law entails much more than we hear in its name. This is to say that the law goes beyond just searching a person or a place and seizing items. Broadly, â€Å"â€Å"Search and seizure† refers to the methods used by law enforcement to investigate crimes, track down evidence, question witnesses, and arrest suspects† (US Legal, 2011). This means that the search and seizure was enacted with the need to track down on criminal activities by gathering and gaining enough grounds for evidence and conducting investigation. For example when a civilian gives off a police tip about a person involved in the dealing of drugs, one of the best ways the police can gather evidence on the authenticity of the suspicion on the otherwise of the suspicion is to search the suspect or his or her premises. In case drugs are truly found, the police would best represent their case in court when they seize the drugs as evident. The application of the search and seizure law in the United States however varies from State to State (US Legal, 2011). The fundamental principle based on which the law works however remains the same; regardless of the State using the law. Due to the technicality of the search and seizure law, it is ably backed and guided by other constitutional laws, commonly known as the 4th Amendment. Search and Seizure and the 4th Amendment Laws a re made to protect the citizenry. This means that laws must be devoid of rooms that permit the abuse of the fundamental human right of people. Having talked about the concept and idea behind the search and seizure law, one may be tempted to think that the search and seizure law would give room for the police and perhaps other security and intelligence agencies to abuse the privacy and safety of civilians. This is far from true. This is because the mandate of the police in using the search and seizure law is controlled by the 4th Amendment. In this regard, Bergman (2010) explains that â€Å"the 4th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution places limits on the power of the police to make arrests, search people and their property, and seize objects and contraband (such as illegal drugs or weapons).† This is to say that the 4th Amendment is a policing tool for the police in executing their search and seizure jurisdictions. The 4th Amendment works on the principle and basis of privacy o f individuals. At the same time however, the 4th Amendment preserves the sanctity of the search and seizure law and therefore strikes a balance by protecting individuals against unreasonable search and seizure and not just against search and seizure. Bergman (2010)

Personal Mission Statement Essay Example for Free

Personal Mission Statement Essay Section I: My Role in my Education I recently finished a diploma program at Remington College for Medical Billing and Coding in October 2010. I successfully completed 9 months of being on the Dean’s list and had perfect attendance throughout the program. I also received the Distinguished Graduate Award for most outstanding student of the Medical Billing and Coding program. I recently decided to continue my education to obtain my Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology. I will be finished with my Associate’s program in June 2012. In five years, I plan on working as a manager for a well-established organization. My ultimate goal is to continue my education until I obtain my Master’s Degree so that I can continue moving up the ladder until I am at the top where there is nothing else left to achieve. There are many obstacles in life that could get in the way of accomplishing my goals but I will just share three of the obstacles with you. The first and most important I think would have to be the lack of support. Even though I have moved back in with my parents while I am in school, I get no positive support from them. I really surprised them at graduation back in October for my diploma program when I was announced as the Distinguished Graduate. I am taking this no support from family as positive motivation to prove them all wrong when I obtain my educational goal which is finishing my Associate’s Degree. Another obstacle that could get in my way of achieving my goal would be my mindset or attitude. In the past when I younger and going to college I use to not have the right attitude for school. I was into just having fun and worrying about my grades. Now that I am older and know what I want, I think I have the right attitude to accomplish my educational goal. One of the reasons for my right attitude now is having a son that I didn’t have back in my younger and immature days. Finally, the last obstacle that I could have to face would be the lack of motivation and drive. This one goes hand and hand with the first two obstacles. In the first two obstacles, getting no positive support from my family and having a son now is giving me the motivation and drive I need to accomplish my educational goals. With this said, I think I have the motivation and drive that I need to succeed and overcome any obstacles that get in my way. Section II: Problem Solving for Success Step 1: Research and Define the Problem Using Present State and Desire State In my present state I am currently unemployed and receiving military funding for college through the Montgomery GI Bill. The money that I am receiving through the Montgomery GI Bill is what I am living off of right now. My desired state would be to be working at a job in my field of study to where I can be working my way up to management. I would also like to put more money in savings so that I can have a sizeable amount of savings in case any emergencies came about. Step 2: Determine the Causes of the problem * What- The problem is that I receive no support from my family in accomplishing my educational goals. * Why- This is a problem because when I was younger I never finished what I started except for High School. * Who- My family is the problem because even though I didn’t finish college when I was younger, they should still support me in finishing it now. * Where- The problem is occurring at home because that is where I see my family the most. * When- The problem occurs every day. This sometime causes me to not to want to be at home. I have to let the negativity go in one ear and out the other, and focus on accomplishing my ultimate goal. * How- The problem occurred because of my past non-accomplishments when I was young and immature. Step 3: Generate Solutions by Brainstorming There are several solutions that could be possible in solving the problem. 1. I could market myself in different cities in order to have more employers see my resume. 2. Once I get a job, I can move out and away from the negativity. 3. I can get a part-time job also to help out with expenses once I move back out on my own. At this time I have been only marketing myself with a 50 mile radius from where I live. I am going to start job searching in a 100 mile radius and possible farther out. Right now I will take a job anywhere, no matter where it is at. Based on all of the knowledge that I have learned in this class, I will be able to analyze the situation and use my critical thinking techniques to come up with the best possible solutions to my problem. Once I look at the problem from every angle possible, I can then apply the solutions based on my analysis of my present state and present issue.

Otto Von Bismarck Essay -- History

Otto Von Bismarck Otto Von Bismarck was a great leader in the unification of Germany. His skill as a diplomat was unrivalled during his reign as chancellor of Prussia. The mastery he showed in foreign policy was such that he was able to outwit all other powers and make their leaders appear inadequate. Bismarck was an unrivalled diplomat during his reign. His German Reich constitution of April 1871 allowed him to dictate the government on his own terms. However, the parliament only â€Å"had the power to initiate debate upon any point of his (Bismarck’s) policy, but neither he nor any other minister was responsible to the assembly for his actions" (T. A. Morris, p116). Furthermore, the constitution was designed to give the impression that power was shared equally between the emperor and the chancellor, however Bismarck had the upper hand in all crucial decision-making, as he was adept at convincing Wilhelm of the correctness of his policy. A further example of the extent to which he was a great chancellor is the fact that he was able to deal with the internal opposition. Bismarck was able to gain the support of the National-Liberal party as they were sympathetic to the chancellor because he had brought about national unity, the party's major policy aim, and also because many short-term goals of the two partners coincided - most notably "consolidation of that national unity and the centralisation of the administration of the Reich" (Morris, p118). His association with the ...

Benefits of Internet Monitoring

The rationality of the benefits of internet monitoring in the work place remains argumentative. A strong foundation of whether or not this aspect has any influence to the performance of an organization would be credited to the results to an affiliated strong research activity. However, due to the role played by the internet monitoring within an organization, it remains a critical event which perhaps unfolds the subject matter of the benefits accruing to internet monitoring.Broadly, the internet system acts as a bridge with which the flow of the organizational information to the outside environment is realized. Through the internet, stakeholder such as competitors, shareholders, financiers above others are able to get the most appropriate information about the firm. Various information composite of an organization within the internet are useful at varying depths to various persons. Elsewhere, the composite information about other organizations including competitors is useful different ly by a particular organization. However, such inflow of information about competitors at the work place is seldom important for adequate monitoring otherwise would be a leeway if not a cross-bridge to losses through competitive opportunity costs. (Schell, Nellie, 78) The subject matter of validity importance of internet monitoring however remains debatable. At one point, some culprits argue that it pays no benefits to the same due to the public nature of the information floated within the internet. This is in the argument that all the information within the frontiers of the internet system should be public free unless copyright protected. On the other hand, challenges of this argument provides that the information floated through the internet by an organization or its competitors should be adequately monitored due to the related consequences which may serve from such information by the organization itself. (from its competitors) or to the stakeholders of such an organization. However , the rationality about the information flow through the internet has various implications to the organisation. At one point, it may determine the relative success to such an organization when the competitive package of this information to the external environment favors it.However, it may be a root cause into the failure of such organization when inadequacy of this information turns to be opportunity costs to the activities of such specific organization. Through the monitoring of the information flowing into the internet, a rational analyst or elsewhere a researcher would argue compulsively about the various business activities credited to internet information such as bluffing, industrial espionage and the corporate intelligence above others. Internet monitoring at the work place by the manager to his/her employees is rapidly important.Due to the interaction nature into the organizational portfolio and the employees, any uncontrolled usage of the organisations information may bore out various consequences of organisational incapability. At one point employees who may be well known to the operational phenomenon of company may use such information to build out various response consequences between the company and the outside stakeholders. Though some people argue on an affiliated importance between the workers and the internet information flow, others argue that any internet information should be solely let free for whatever level to the workers.(Mcvoy, 1) However, on grounds of rationality, internet monitoring to the workers by the management should be strongly built on solid foundations. This is in the bid to control various autonomous external loss of information to predators such as competitors through the workers. In the short hand therefore, any information left out for free use by the workers should be adequately public as possible. Otherwise insights of confidential information about the company’s information should be let out at a monitored leng th to the workers.Either, workers should not hesitate to sign compliance into the rules of industrial espionage above that of the corporate intelligence. Broadly, the surveillance of information to the workers has drawn an elaborated understanding to many rational business analysts. Currently, this subject matter is seen of an influential capacity to the success of the company. Pursuit to appropriate success in the internet monitoring at the work place is also given refuge by the use of electronic software which continues to improve efficiency in the monitoring process. However, monitoring is subjective for providing protection to both the interests of the managers, the workers ad those of the customers. In every aspect of monitoring, the rights of workers privacy should be left to withhold. To comply with the legal rules, any monitoring activity should be driven in by a consultation protocol between various unions of workers in which an agreement should be implied on the use of the monitoring aspects. In every aspect, this monitoring should provide fairness to the staff above complying with the rules of the law.Otherwise, unjustified as well as excessive campaign on monitoring could breach the laws binding data protection. (Cooney, Lisa, 1) Internet monitoring is important to the workers, the managers and stakeholders of the organisation. Firstly, it helps to ensure that the workers are safe in terms of the health and the working conditions. This may be an intrusion into the working conditions of the workers which may help the employers learn more about the private incidents of the workers conditions. However, in the act of internet monitoring, private information should be pursuit to grounds of fairness and been lawful to them.Elsewhere, internet monitoring such as emails and websites belonging to the workers is important in safeguarding the interests of the stakeholders to the company. Through various internet information monitoring, shareholders interest ma y be affected differently. The sovereignty of the customers may be compromised via the information exchange through the internet between the workers and third parties to the company such as competitors. Through internet, workers may exclusively exchange volatile information to the external person which may radically affect the success of the company. As a rule at the market place, the success of the company is determined by the standards of the game theory. Tactics of survival and the winning formula to such market place game is determined by the operational strategies and methodologies of the operational procedures. However, historical epochs have highlighted workers as been subordinate implements though which private information is exchanged and pirated to the external predators. Such internet monitoring by the managers will therefore involved an analysis of the emails and websites allied to the workers above that of the information made free to the workers by the management.(Mishr a, Suzanne, 1) At a close outlook therefore, internet monitoring plays an exorbitant role in defining the success of the company. It will help to monitor the interest of the parties into the company. Either, it helps to provide standards with which a company can be able to realize its operational efficiencies and economies of scale into the business activities when it does not loose its operational benefits to the competitors through the workers. At the market place full of competition, the nature of information flow between various parties should be highly monitored.Company information should be held as copyright protected material whose flow between particular persons within the organization should be evaluated. Unless such information is made public, any external exchange between the workers and some stakeholders of the company may breach the rights of the copyright protected work. A clear definition of public and private information of the company should be put into place to ens ure a coordinated approach between the information flow from the workers and the external environment.

Slavery in the USA Essay Example

Slavery in the USA Essay Example Slavery in the USA Essay Slavery in the USA Essay Essay Topic: In the Us The history of slavery is one of the constituent parts of the historical development of the Untied States, actually it started from the first settlers of the USA and only in the year 1865 Emancipation Proclamation declared freedom for all slaves. (Claudia, 1986)The first mentioning of slavery can be traced from 1619, when a Dutch ship transported twenty blacks to Virginia that was at that moment the English colony. Their position was defined as indentured servants. Later on this notion developed into racial slavery. Virginia Slave Codes defined the social position of slaves in 1705.During the times of British colonies there were various types of slaves: starting from house servants and to those who were engaged to work on farms and plantations. Farmers were growing rice, tobacco and cotton. Only rich farmers, owing good lands could buy expensive slaves for developing their cotton business. In the 17th century appeared the notion – Native slaves – slaves brought to other colonies. (Menard, 1995). Thousands of them were used for work on â€Å"sugar islands†.   Some tribes like for example Cherokees also bought black slaves during 1800 – 1830s.The situation with slaves after 1776 was rather tense, the attitude to slaves was mostly very brutal: it was allowed to whip them when they were working on plantations, it was even prescribed by slave codes. For black people there were also separate Black Codes, the fulfillment of theses codes was under the control of white patrollers, who in fact had the right to mutilate or even kill runaways. Slaves could never be sure that they will have the chance to live with their families as the owner could sell any of the family members if there was such necessity for him. There were also cases of rebel from slaves who escaped or tried to revenge their owners by burning barns or killing their possessors.   Owners when buying a slave had to provide clothes and food for him, some even paid bonuses, slav es were allowed to keep the money they earned with gambling or in lottery. There was even a case, when a slave won in the lottery and then was able to buy freedom for himself. (Claudia, 1986).The first sighs of abolitionism can be traced in the 1750s, when the gatherings of Quakers pushed their members to refuse from having slaves. The American Revolution brought the spirits and beliefs that slavery was a disaster for America and its white residents. Between the years 1780 and 1804 practically all Northern States signed the emancipation acts. In the Constitution of Massachusetts of 1780 appeared a statement that all people were â€Å"born free and equal† (Menard, 1995).At the beginning of the 19th century this movement was gaining strength in the whole country.   There was even a campaign organized to deliver back the black people – former slaves who wanted to return to their homeland. This movement suddenly received a support from religion as well, in 1830 William L loyd Garrison stated that slavery was a personal sin and appealed to refusing from it. In spite of the best intentions of the movement, in reality this was the main reason of the Civil War in America. In fact refusal from slavery seemed to be not so easy step for economics, especially after the invention of the cotton gin in 1793 by Eli Whitney (Barzel, 1985). This led to increase of cotton need fifty times, which in its way resulted in growing need for more slavers’ labour in the southern states. The cotton boom coincided with slavery ban in the North of the country. However not all slaves became free, a lot of them were in reality shipped to the states where there was no ban for slavery yet, this means to the South. The situation was getting tenser due to the increased number of slaves in the South; slave owners became even more convinced that slaves can not be freed because of their fear of consequences.   The supplies of slaves from outside were stopped from 1808 by the decision of the Congress, however the inside slave trade was still allowed.   After in 1820s Midwestern states also banned slavery and in the North states slaves became free due to emancipation policy, the country was divided into two parts by the Ohio River into a slave part and into a free part. This distinction between northern and southern parts of the country grew even stronger when â€Å"with the formation of the Southern Baptist Convention on the premise that the Bible sanctions slavery and that it was acceptable for Christians to own slaves† (Menard, 1995).Franciscan mission resulted in development of slavery in colonial and Mexican California. Officially it was called Native labour, in reality this was continual slavery. After inroad from America in 1848, native inhabitants of California were made slaves with the help of so-called four-month penalty for â€Å"vagrancy† (Menard, 1995). At the same time in Kansas the situation was also rather tense. In 1854 Ka nsas- Nebraska Act was signed and it was up to natives to decide whether Kansas State should be a free or a slave state. John Brown was doing his best in supporting the abolitionist movement, but Republicans were too much afraid of the slaves’ possible control of the national government. When the time for presidential election in 1860 came, the absolute partition in the country became evident. The main parties could not come to an agreement: the Southern Democrats supported slavery, The Republicans wanted to stop it, The Northern Democrats stated that all the states should take local decisions, as this would mean the real democracy, at last the Constitutional Union Party struggled for the durability of the Union. Lincoln, the representative of Republicans won the election. The great problem was that abolition of slavery presented not only moral issue, this could also negatively influence the state of economy in the county, which was already used to the profits brought by worke rs, who needed no salary. There was also a point of view that the balance in the country, which was sustained with the help of number of slave and free states, could be broken. Mostly the South was concerned, because this part of the country depended a lot on agriculture, whereas in the north the industry could develop quite well without slaves. For Lincoln slavery was first of all political problem and he would prefer to have more control over the Mississippi river region. (Barzel, 1985)The logical consequence of this opposition was the Civil War in 1861, which resulted in final abolition of slavery. On the 1st of January 1863, Lincoln signed Emancipation Proclamation. After the war around four million slaves were set free, which made more than 12 % of the whole population in the USA. Arizona and Tennessee states revoked slavery in 1863-1865 by the special Acts passed and the Union army freed the rest of the slaves in the southern states. This was actually the formal end of slavery in the USA and it was followed by the period of Reconstruction.Overall, the history of slavery in America was long and controversial, full of sufferings and political intrigues. Slavery played great role in the economical development of the country, of the other side weakening its moral and cultural traditions in a way. We mentioned briefly some key events of the whole slavery history, omitting the description of rebels and names of the slaves who took part in them, omitting the details of all hardships that enslaved people had to come through and so on.

This is a big bad world of marketing where the entire marketing profession stands accused of crossing ethical boundaries, enticing children and adults alike and using to technology to the point of abuse. Welcome to the post-modern marketing era! In this course we were able to discuss the more profound issues behind the post modern marketing era and its influence on modern media and advertising. Visionaries like C. Wright Mills were looking ahead when they described the post-modern period as one where there would be a growth of tertiary sector and the services industry would boom in the era of multi nationals and a rise in capitalism. However the booming free market would be unable to boast of free speech and democratic values in the guise of political and social turmoil. For Doherty (1991) post modernism as phenomena feared human progress and its realities. Other writers have said that this era is a time of uncertainty and doubt (Stacey 1990) and a melting pot of pluralism, democracy and information and consumerism. (Stacey 1990) The marketers have realised that this age has come with its packages of closeness and aids to overcome the physical barriers/social barriers through the media and information technology. Shorter (19 75) has identified this with "anonymous intimacy" as people scramble to find emotional depth due to family ties becoming more distant through TV talk and advice shows and texting and chatting. Technology has blurred the divide between home and work as the internet brings home the world. So are we "what we know" . This is an age of post-modern relativism and pluralism which has replaced the vials of the generally accepted universal

Story of an hour Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Story of an hour - Essay Example To get to a point of climax, stories are read and films are watched. This is what determines whether a story is good or bad as it is the focal point of the story. A sure climax will give a situation where there is a double approval or double disapproval. The short story by Kate Chopin, ‘The story of an hour’, offers every detail on its way to the death of Louise Mallard which is the climax of the story and comes so suddenly that most readers are caught off guard. It is a great story since it gives a lot of details as it leads to the climax. Chopin handles issues that are complex in the story as they involve the mixed feelings that Mallard had when she heard of the death of her husband in a train accident. They were marriage, female independence and love. The death of her husband gives her feelings that are conflicting as she feels the pain of her loss while at the same time; she is excited at the prospect of being independent as a female since there was no man to answer to after his death. The story ends in a manner that is not easy to predict as there is a new twist to the tale with the revelation that her husband was actually n ot dead killing her dream of being independent instantly. She dies from the shock and it is her husband who is freed from her and he stays to enjoy the independence that she would envy even in death. The story however does not go far enough to tell the reader what kind of emotions and thoughts went through Mr. Mallard’s mind. In her story, Chopin makes Mrs. Mallard look like a sympathetic person who is strong in mind and has an insight. This is shown by the fact that she feels the pain of the loss of her husband but is strong enough and knows very well that it is no use getting attached to the loss but it is important to take advantage of the freedom that comes from the loss. In other words she takes on the positives from the loss. In the past American wives always answered to their husbands but those women who were

The Tools That Are Used By the European Central Bank (ECB) To Increase Essay

The Tools That Are Used By the European Central Bank (ECB) To Increase the Money Supply in the Economy - Essay Example This paper illustrates that the European central bank may use buying securities as a tool to increase the money supply in the euro area. This is through the open market operations. The ECB may affect the supply of money through selling or buying the European government securities, by the use of open market open market operations. When the ECB purchases the government securities from the general public, it will do so using the money that was not in existence in the system. This will make the bank reserves to increase or rise and in turn, will make the money supply to increase. For example, when the European Central Bank has an open market operation through buying or selling government securities and when it purchase these government securities from the public, it does so using the nonexistent money. Consequently, this makes the reserves in the bank to rise, and as a result, this increases the supply of money. The European central bank may increase the supply of the money by making the reserve rate to be lower. The ECB can do this through the formulae of the Required Reserve Ratio. Through this ratio, banks are able to know the required and specific amount which they must hold as the reserve through all the deposits and have limits to the amount that the banks will lend out to its customers. If this ratio is increased by the ECB, the money deposits will have to be few, therefore further limiting the amount available to the public. The European Central Bank may decrease the discount rate so as to increase the money supply. For example, banks may have to borrow funds when they need them. If the banks borrow from the ECB, an interest rate will be paid which is known as Discount rate. Another tool that can be used by the ECB to increase the supply of money in the economy is the publishing or producing of more money. Though the ECB may decide to increase the money supply in the economy through the selling of securities to the public, a majority of the public prefer ho arding money thus the money in circulation becomes less. It is for this reason and may be less availability of money that the ECB may decide to publish more money to increase the money supply in the economy.

Research and recommend environmentally friendly elements to be used in Essay - 1

Research and recommend environmentally friendly elements to be used in the construction of a multi storey commercial building - Essay Example These ensure that client satisfaction and deign excellence. The chief task of this paper is to recommend environmentally friendly elements to be employed in the use of the construction of a multi-storey building. Green building is both cost effective and environmentally friendly. Wood is among the core materials used in the construction of buildings. In context to multi-storey buildings, the ratio of steel, glass and concrete, is significantly more. However, this ratio must change while building green. In this endeavor, timber-concrete composite is favorable for this building. It comprises of timber beams being interconnected to slabs of concrete that are then cast on timber members. This introduces cost saving measures and efficient control of building materials.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In context to the roof, clay roofing tiles are the best environmentally friendly option to pursue. Clay is a hundred percent recyclable as such the core rationale for its inclusion as a preferred building material. Owing to their durability, significant saving will be expected. This will be in terms of cost of repair. An additional factor for clay is that an increasing number of clay manufacturing companies are offering post consumer recycled clay tiles. Thus, the roofing system will always be up to date. Painting has been discovered to be among the most toxic chemicals in buildings (RIDER et al., 2011). Therefore, environmentally friendly paint must be used. The paint to be used on the building should be of low or no VOC paint. Natural pigmented paints should be the only paint to be used. As such, Ecosure Matt by Deluxe Trade is the best alternative. A case study conducted on Rimrose Hope CE Primary School explicates on both the sustainability and performance of this natural paint. The normal insulation systems are a product of toxic materials. An environmentally friendly insulation system comprises of blue jean denim. It entirely uses
